On the occasion of International Women's Day, Amélie Huynh, Founder of STATEMENT Paris, shares her journey with us, reveals her strengths and convictions, and reflects on her moments of doubt.
All women have fought a battle at one time or another.
What was the biggest challenge in your life?
To give life precisely.
Something that is rarely discussed, as if modesty dictated that we cannot bring up the subject, this quasi-convention, this agreement that means we are physiologically designed to give life, naturally... When we do not fulfill it, we enter into combat, beyond the rational, it becomes visceral. I fought for several years, dependent on timing, treatments, logistics that are beyond us, without giving up, despite defeats, but convinced that each one was a step towards my victory. This victory was born 4 years later. My first... followed by others that make me very happy.
When do you feel you need to be strong?
Strength can only be exercised through justice. I demonstrate strength when I am certain, when I believe in a project, a person, a subject, with whom I am one.
I try not to impose. I defend a conviction, and if those who accompany me trust me and fully adhere to it, then I have the strength to carry the project through to completion, together.
I think of the tarot card, strength, of this seemingly peaceful woman who naturally keeps the lion's mouth open, without exerting any other force than that of the feeling that what she defends is right, and of this lion who, despite his power, opens a jaw that could nevertheless crush her in an instant. Patience and humility are strengths. Managing to involve people in projects, building a common strength, rather than an individual one, that is the feat of strength. Taking people with you because they trust you, never because they fear you.
I like this rule of life: be careful what you tolerate; you teach people how to treat you.
In turn made of shadows and lights, such are women, echoing the moon that governs us.
What is your light side, what is your dark side?
In the shadows my doubts are created... we have certainly all experienced this imposter syndrome, integrated a multitude of limiting beliefs, those which end up generating excess pride and ultimately bring us down. I am sometimes torn between this doubt and the search for the justice I spoke about before. Because I ultimately fear the excess of power which lurks in the shadows with doubt.
On the light side, more than ever, lies intuition, and my relatively newfound ability to listen to it; mine as well as that of others, to accept the improbability of encounters and the role we assign them. I now deliberately approach the other and the experience we can share.
In my part of light there is also confidence, the one that we finally decide to grant ourselves over time, and it is this feeling of confidence, this consecration of our victories that I wanted to offer through Statement jewelry: to realize that we are stakeholders in our path.
Express your most important conviction, the one that guides your steps in life.
I am the actress of my own existence, I have the choice to become its hero, to build my own legend on my own scale, however humble it may be. Beyond the fatality imposed on us by the basic scenario with illness, mourning... I can at any time take control of life, write my own script, decide the place I will give to those who will enter my story, sometimes they will enrich it in a difficult way, sometimes they will embellish it, I will learn each time, but I am the one who chooses and I generate my "luck" while thanking it every day.
Mind upload. It constitutes the starting point for the story of the heroine Alyh, whom you imagined, and who imagines a universe in which she evolves and surpasses herself. What skills would you develop if this adventure were offered to you?
Our imagination has no limits... so I choose two, the first: the gift of ubiquity without a doubt, being able to live several existences at the same time, mastering this time that is beyond us, not to control but to be able to intervene at my own pace, as simply as running my business while spending the day with my children, enjoying my parents and friends, staying in touch with the world. The second: being aware of my past existences and benefiting from this spiritual wealth and the knowledge accumulated during each lesson: the power of wisdom but without the memory of what it can cost because it is rarely acquired without difficulty, perhaps it is also essential?
Take us into your safe space? Alyh uses her imagination to create a world somewhere between solar punk and brutalism. What would yours look like?
I imagine a place that is both sunny and silent except for the sound of birds singing in the background, a very flowery universe without it being multicolored, a familiar floral and plant scent that is very soft, enveloping, serene. There is necessarily water, a moving stream rather than a still lake.
Never give up on... What would you say to your best friend or your child?
To your freedom. To the reasons that will allow you to achieve happiness. Be careful not to confuse freedom with solitude, but rather a freedom of action and choices that come from the heart.
The best…
Not letting failure drag me down. And I end with what I started with... not giving up on building a family.
A personal family, by having children, of course. But also a friendly and professional family, by having been able to distinguish those who would accompany me and those I would accompany. I am proud to have managed very quickly to distinguish those who are part of my existence.
